If after applying you are considered suitable we will ask you to send us more detailed information about your personal and medical history.

At the same time you will be asked to submit a short essay as to why you wish to be considered for a scholarship and why you would like to learn to fly.

A Preliminary Selection Board, which is held early each year, will then decide whether to shortlist you for the Final Selection Board which is usually held in April at RAF Cranwell.

At RAF Cranwell you will undergo flying theory and aptitude tests, medical examinations and interviews. While there you will encounter, perhaps for the first time, the challenge of aviation and demonstrate your ability to climb into an aircraft cockpit, which is not nearly as difficult as it might appear at first sight.

Applicants, former scholars and selection panel members of the 2013 selection board held in March at RAF Cranwell.

“I was dreading going to Cranwell – the sheer terror of having to mix with so many other disabled people. In the event I could not have been more wrong. The reality was a bunch of interesting, gutsy people who had been thrown a stinking hand in life and come through fighting. Every one of them had turned down the offer of a bland future, filled with disappointment and disability-aids, and come in search of something more". 2006 Scholar.
